WHICH BOAT for your retirement?
It’s never too late (or too early) to be smart about money
Retirement can often feel like a like a boat cruise – and your available choices for your boat will be determined by how well you have prepared for that cruise. Most people hope for a speedboat or at least a sailboat but for many, a kayak (or even just a life preserver) will be the only option.
For anyone thinking about retirement, there are lots of good suggestions available but virtually all are based on personal preferences and experiences. The purpose of the blog is to take the extensive in-depth research available and provide some suggestions based on what works – and what doesn’t – in the research.
So if you would like to see what has come from the consumer finance research of many fine institutions, then read on.
My own background is one of finance, although in college I studied economics and then Chinese. Surprisingly this was my entrée in a corporate banking training program at Citibank Canada that eventually led to a Vice Presidency at Security Pacific Bank (now Bank of America). I then spent 22 years working with governments around the world as a senior staff-member of the World Bank, in Washington DC. I was always one to create my own jobs and the last position was head of a global program that I founded on financial literacy and financial consumer protection. My objective then – and now – is to find practical solutions to complex problems.
Am hoping that this blog (and eventual book) will be useful to many as we plan for our sunset cruises. Please comment and let me know what you like, what you don’t, and what you would like to see more of.
