Once you have decided on a course of action, use text messages to help focus your attention. A 2016 study funded by the Center for Financial Services Innovation found that general goal-oriented text messages has virtually no impact on the behavior of the research participants. However text messages with specific task orientation were able to encourage an increase of savings by between six and eight percent compared to the general goal-oriented messages.
Such messages could also be used for debt management to ensure that you do not miss due dates on bills, income and property taxes and other charges. The text messages help to overcome limited attention spans and a common bias on the present at the expense of the future.
